Ralph Waldo Emerson once said: “People seem not to see that their opinion of the world is also a confession of character.”

Peterson is ill. This is a fact (google ‘Peterson depression TVO’ & ‘Peterson depression’). According to him, his grandfather & his father had suffered, and he himself, and his daughter are suffering from major depression. He was attracted to psychology in the first place because of his depression. He’s been suffering from major depression for more than 40 years.

Peterson’s chaos is ‘depression‘. (Hint: if you want to hear his self-confessions about his sufferings, replace chaos with depression in his talks. In many cases, we can hear him crying for help). The truth in people reveals itself through language and words. And Peterson is one talkative lad.

He’s been suffering his entire life. As rational beings, we want to find the reasons behinds our suffering. If we can’t find the reasons, we create them, we imagine them. In the process of locating the source of his suffering, he found Christ. He associated himself and his suffering with Christ (who supposedly died and suffered for our sins). This association with Christ is the foundation of his (so-called) individualism. He also projected his major depression (chaos) on godlessness and anything that has a godless nature (marxism, post-modernism, Lacan theories, etc).

Now, let’s go back to Emerson’s quote and rewrite it: “Peterson seems not to see that his opinion of the world (particularly opinions on order & chaos) is also a confession of character.”

In Peterson’s language, order means god, Christ, or religion. Chaos means depression. And the phrase ‘orient yourself to fight chaos‘ means “God saves you from suffering/depression‘. In other words, ‘I wish god saves me from depression/suffering‘.

P.S. I’m not a fan of political correctness (I criticize Peterson’s ill-conceived notions of chaos/order).  Zizek describes my view on PC very well:
